Martha Greenwood, was born Jan 29, 1922 in Port Arthur, Texas and called for this assignment with God on January 14, 2016 at the age of 94. Her daddy, Pop Bolner gave her the lifelong nickname “Pat.” She had the honor of being one of the ‘Greatest Generation” and a surviving WWII spouse. She grew up in Jeanerette, LA and attended St. Mary’s Dominican College in New Orleans receiving a degree in Music There she fell in love with her late husband, Allen Greenwood who was attending Loyola. After he enlisted in the 1st Army Air Corps., they married in Albuquerque on February 8, 1942. Pat was the epitome of the Southern Belle. She loved parties, Mardi Gras balls, and always being the life of the party. She was President of the Lake Vista Women’s Club, Lake Vista Holiday Club, and active in many social organizations. Lucille Ball would have done well to use Pat as her character study when she was preparing for the movie “Mame.” Greenwood Insurance Agency was her passion for some 30 years. Pat learned the insurance business from Allen, and they soon became the dynamic duo selling from New Orleans to Buras. She sold maritime insurance for Travelers and Lloyds of London, and Allen sold life insurance for New York Life. Red velvet cake, oysters, and handmade dolls were ever present around her house thanks to her many lifelong friends from Plaquemines Parish. She loved traveling and travelled the world before that became the “in thing” to do. Paris, London, Rome and Venice were always on her route where she visited the many friends she had met along the way. But her favorite spot was Brussels for the Mathijsen family traditional Christmas. Her sewing skills, Christmas carols, and imagination made Christmas magic for the many extended grandchildren. Her hand sewn angel costumes for 13 children were extraordinary and a sight to behold. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Allen Bolner and Elva Jeansonne Bolner of Jeanette and her husband, Allen Greenwood Sr. of New Orleans and one sister, Elsie Bolner Edley of Jeanerette. She is survived by one sister, Ann Bolner Patout of New Iberia and one daughter Patricia Joyce Greenwood of Houston and a son Allen Greenwood Jr. (Stephanie) of Paris, France. She has three wonderful grandchildren, Emily, Celine, and Chloe who were constantly caring for her during the last 18 years. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews from the Patout and Edley families and her extended grandchildren from Belgium. She would like to especially thank Stephanie for her relentless efforts to manage her medical care, get her to appointments and creative solutions to common problems she faced everyday. Celine for her unending dedication to her care and supervising her well being. The family would like to also thank the management and staff of Consolata Nursing Home for their care and attention during the past years. This includes administration, nursing, aides, dietary, housekeeping, laundry, maintenance and clergy. Special thanks to those who cared for her until the end, John, Betty, Alicia, and Joanna. She adored Nursey, Geri, Katrina and Mary. Yvette Laird was the gold standard of dedication caring for her late mother, Hilda Giraud and to Pat, she was ever present. Also, Dr Michael Alvarez for his kind words and bedside manner. A super special thanks to Charles Delahoussaye who makes a difference for so many people, one person at a time. A private memorial will be held for family and close friends in New Iberia and in New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, she asks that you do something special for yourself that you always wanted to.
