61. She was a resident of Boothville, LA. She was a former parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Daughter of Mary Hall and the late Lonnie Hall. Beloved Wife of the late Mack M. Pinkins Sr. Mother of Marissa Pinkins and Mack (Taraya) Pinkins Jr. Sister of Elnora Perkins, Daula Robinson, Alfred, Cedric and Byron Hall and the late Lois Pinkins. Daughter In Law of the late Enez and Webster Pinkins Sr. The Deceased is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and devoted friends. Relatives and Friends of the family, also former parishioners of St. Anthony Catholic Church and all neighboring churches of Plaquemines Parish were invited to attend visitation and funeral services on Thursday, January 3, 2018 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Port Sulphur, LA. Verda Anderson of Deer Range passed away suddenly December 28,›2018 in Gretna, LA at the age of 75. Verda was born in Acme, LA and later moved to Deer Range in Plaquemines Parish where she raised her family and called home for nearly 50 years. For most of those years, you would often find her in her garden tending her flowers, growing all sorts of fruits and vegetables, cooking up a pot of delicious gumbo, reeling in big ol’ redfish and captivating people with her stories. Foremost, she was an unequalled, loving mother who sacrificed unendingly for her children. Her beauty, strength, sweetness, candor, kindness, sense of humor and beautiful wide smile made most folks she met lifelong friends. She will be sorely and deeply missed. Her loss is unfathomable. She is survived by three children, Anthony Denny Sr., Randall Denny Sr. and Brian Anderson; eight grandchildren Dionna Denny, Randall Denny Jr., Brandy Pflepsen, Kyle Denny, Mikayla Denny, Kristin Hannan, Nicholas Molero, and Ella Denny; four great-grandchildren Liam, Shayne, Lilly and Jonah; two siblings Bill Allwell and Sherry Reech. She is preceded in death by, her son Michael Denny, her grandson Anthony Denny Jr., her mother Avis Alwell, and her brother Everett Alwell Jr. Friends and family are invited to remember her through a memorial ceremony at the First Baptist Church of Belle Chasse on Friday, January 18, 2019, at 6:30 p.m.› › The Funeral services were held previously at the Acme Baptist Church on Sunday, January 6, 2019. Afterward, she was laid to rest among family and friends and finally reunited with her beloved mother, Avis, in the Acme Baptist Church Cemetery. Verda agonized over children and animals in need. Bertha “Billie” Caroline Passauer Parasol Bene entered peacefully into heaven on Saturday, January 5, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 95. Wife of the late Alfred Bene of 44 years. She is survived by her children Trudy Bene Griffin (Jim) and Wayne Bene, Sr. (Kathy). A proud grandmother of Heather Griffin Brito, Kathryn Bene Donsereaux (Leroy), Wayne Bene, Jr., Steve Bene (Amanda), John Bene (Brenda), Aaron Bene (Kelly) and a great grandmother of Jessica, Joshua, Julie-Ann, Jacob, Kameron, Jeremy, Caroline, Katelin, Alyssa, Emily, Kelly, Ashton, Jared, Samantha, William and the late Christopher and Briana . Daughter of the late Catherine “Katie” Hammer Passauer and Louis Passauer, Sr. Preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Lucille P. Lee, Catherine P. Hammock, Evelyn P. Hock, Louis and Charles Passauer. She is also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was a native of New Orleans, and a lifelong resident of Terrytown, LA. “Billie” worked for many years at the Naval Base in Belle Chasse as a Data Processing Supervisor. Upon retirement, she spent her time traveling, gardening, and mostly caring for her grandchildren. Kirk Douglas Fitzgerald, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the age of 52. He is preceded in death by his father, Douglas Paul Fitzgerald. He is the beloved husband of Gina Lavolpicella Fitzgerald. He is the loving father of Kurt Joseph Fitzgerald and Anthony Michael Ybarra (Natasha). He is the devoted grandfather of Kade, Karlyn, and Kendalyn. He is the cherished son of Judy Hadley Barrois (Kenneth Sr.). He is the loving brother of Julie Fitzgerald Adams (Troy), Melissa Fitgerald Guillot (Kevin), and Natalie Fitgerald Douglas (John). He is the adored uncle of Walter Joseph Heathcock, Adam Joseph Adams, Irelyn Claire Heathcock, Jake Hebert (Haley), Cole Hebert, Raegan Hebert, Brantley Hebert, Erica Landry (Don Paul), Kalee Cooper, Cohen Landry, Laiken Landry, and Aspen Landry. He is also survived by other family and friends. An avid outdoorsman, Kirk enjoyed fishing and hunting. Above all, he loved spending quality times with his loving family. Margaret Mary McDermott Gurba passed away on January 5, 2019 after a long illness at the age of 75. Margaret was a native of Philadelphia and later resided in Gretna and Harvey, LA for the past 45 years. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, John and Agnes (Whelan) McDermott, and her brothers John “Jack” (Toni) McDermott and Francis “Frank” (Sue) Mc-Dermott. She is survived by one brother James McDermott. She will be missed by a host of nieces and nephews and mostly by her six children; Ronald Jr. “Ronnie”, John (Ashley), Beth Anne (Santos) Gonzales, Meg (Matthew) McKinney, Amy (Bryant) McGuire, and Christopher (Kelley), grandchildren; Kristen, Hallie, Faith, Melanie, Coral, Jewell, John Patrick Jr., Jeremy, Jordan, Jarek, Jacqui, Jacob “JT”, Abigail “Abby” and soon to be fourteenth grandchild Ashlynn Margaret, and great-grandchildren; Brayden, Zaden, Zelek, Nora and a baby girl, Alana - due later this month. Margaret graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High in 1961. After graduation, she worked for the Northern Bell Telephone Company. She then met and married her former husband of nearly 35 years in 1963. Margaret dedicated her life to nurturing and rearing her six children and being a supportive military wife. During their years in the Navy, she traveled extensively, including living in Morocco, Africa for two years. After raising her children, Margaret went back to work with the Jefferson Parish School Board as an Assistant Teacher. She took great pride in educating and encouraging young people. After retiring in 2010, she volunteered in nursing homes and became an invaluable resource to a few cherished and ailing friends. Margaret was a devout Catholic who leaves behind a large family of whom she was immensely proud. She was a funny, loyal, irreverent, crazy and devoted mom and grandma. She was a kind-hearted and compassionate person who could talk endlessly on any subject (and often did)! Margaret never held back her opinion and always told the truth (as she saw it) even if it was not what you wanted to hear. She was the type of person who would, literally, give you the shirt off of her back if you needed it. In her final selfless act, Margaret chose to donate her body to LSU Health & Medical Studies. A Mass will be said in her name at noon on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Belle Chasse, Louisiana. A private Celebration of Life will be held by her immediate family. Memorable contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and/or American Stroke Association.

Loving mother of James Hinson, Jr., Johnny Hinson (Rene), Jay Hinson (Angie), Jeannine Danos (Jody) and Jennifer Landry (Jude). Beloved grandmother of Rache’, Caria, Jonathan (Cristi), Lacie (Garrett), Rachel (Pio), Danica (Dimitri), Danielle (John), Jacob, Jena and the late Joseph. Loving great grandmother of Kali, Rowen, Gavin, Emma, Ezra, Ella Jane, Demi, Halle and the late Justice. Sister of Wayne Johnke, Alvin Johnke and the late Verleen Atkinson and Georgie Harminson. Also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. She was born in Hamilton County, Texas and was a resident of Boothville, Louisiana for 64 years. Charlene was an avid Bingo player and she was a member of the Red Hats Club. She worked for Delta Heritage Academy and Plaquemines Parish Government for many years. Mr. Lecil C. Johnson passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 in Winnsboro, TX, at the age of 90. He was born on December 11, 1928 in Cayuga, TX, to the late Robert S. Johnson and Dorval Conard Johnson. Conard was a retired Supervisor of Getty Oil and Chevron-Texaco. He later retired from the Winnsboro Independent School District. He was a veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a former member of First Baptist Church in Venice, LA, and First Baptist Church in Belle Chasse, LA. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Winnsboro, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Hazel Marie Johnson, daughter, Peggy Nell Rousselle, infant grandsons, Lyndon, Cody and Colby and brother, James Johnson. He is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer Kennair and husband Don of Belle Chasse, LA and Connie Howie and husband Glen of Crowley, LA; brothers, Hal Johnson and wife, Pat of Malakoff and David Johnson of Athens; grandchildren, Rebekah, Tamarah, Glen, Conard, Hope, Carley, Abigail and great grandchildren, Ruth, Lucas, Domenic, Tess Marie and Cooper; brother-in-law, Nolen Holcomb and wife, Suzi of Stephenville and sister-in-law, Belva Holcomb of Grand Prairie. Julie Ann Vess Lentz, resident of Belle Chasse, LA, went to her Lord peacefully in her home on January 5, 2019 at the age of 55. Julie was born in Chicago, IL, on June 10, 1963. She is preceded in death by her loving mother, Carol Ann Quimby Vess; and her two brothers, Daniel Ray Vess Jr. and Victor Scott Vess. She is the beloved wife of 31 years of Edward Michael Lentz Sr. She is the loving mother of Sara Tilghman (Joey), Edward Lentz Jr., and Albert Neil Vess. She is the devoted grandmother of Lillian Tilghman, Memphis Vess, Paris Vess, and Jackson Vess.She is the cherished daughter of Daniel Ray Vess (Patricia). She is the loving sister of Linda Pederson (Buddy), and William Vess Sr. (Sabrina). She is also survived by her father-in-law, Carlo Rotolo; best friends, Lisa Skaggs and Ann Glass; nephew, William Vess, Jr.; other family and friends. A loving mother and homemaker, Julie was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Her passions were gardening, baking, and spending time with her grandbabies. She loved to spend her time reading and studying the word of God. Julie had many hobbies including crocheting, making candles, shopping, and drawing. She was a loving friend to many. Julie dedicated her life to being a devoted wife and mother to her children and grandchildren. She had a precious heart that touched the lives of many people. She loved whole heartedly each person she met. Julie believed and loved God and lived her life to serve His purpose. Julie was a woman that made the world a better place and she will truly be missed by many. Michael C. Smith passed away peacefully on January 6, 2019 at the age of 64. Beloved husband of Anna Riester Smith. Father of Shawn M. Smith (Meredith). Grandfather of Luke Henry Michael Smith. Brother of Barbara Messner (Hugh) and Gwynette Goodman (Jim). Son of the late Merlin and Gwynette Smith. Also survived by other loving relatives and friends. Michael served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard a P-3 Orion as a member of the VP-94 Crawfishers Squadron. Serving for 12 years, he was based out of the NAS JRB in Belle Chasse and served all over the world including the Naval Research Laboratory and Operation Magnet. He later worked for many years in sales at Hydradyne Hydraulics, LLC where he was a Charter Member of the President’s Club. He was passionate about coastal conservation and was a member of the Coastal Conservation Association. Michael was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and being out on the water. James Turner Burnette passed away while surrounded by family on January 10, 2019 at the age of 41. Born September 19, 1977 in Tulsa, OK, to Michael Burnette and Diana Masterson Black. James was an avid fisherman and a dedicated father who loved to spend time with his daughters. He was greatly looking forward to The Saints playing in the Superbowl this year, and will be greatly missed by so many people whose lives he has touched over the years. James is the beloved son of Michael Burnette and his wife Holly Burnette of Oldfield, Missouri and Diana Masterson Black and her husband Rickey Black of Longview, Texas; Husband of Cindy Burnette of Belle Chasse, Louisiana; Cherished father of Jewel Burnette, Kristin Burnette and Rene’ Burnette of Belle Chasse, Louisiana; Brother of Tasha Pearson of Longview, Texas and the late Van Alan Lassus Jr. of Belle Chasse, Louisiana; Grandson of Doris and the late Jimmy Masterson of New Madrid, Missouri. John Calvin Starnes passed away after a long illness on January 5, 2019 at The Butterfly Wing Hospice in Baton Rouge, LA, at the age of 46. He was born September 7, 1972, in Lafayette, LA. John’s parents were Polly Starnes and step-father the late Stephen Steinberg. He attended the Kennedy Institute in Washington, D. C. and received a Certificate of Completion with Honors from West Monroe High School in 1995. John served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in West Monroe, and was an Office Assistant at Belle Chasse Primary School in Belle Chasse. He lived life to the fullest wherever he went appreciating the beauty and love that surrounded him. His kindness and caring for others will long be remembered. John is survived by his mother and several relatives. Friends whose lives John touched are invited to attend a service celebrating John’s life at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 411 N. Rampart Street, New Orleans, at 2 p. m. on January 28, 2019.

Teddy Darrel Benson died peacefully Friday, January 18, 2019 in the presence of his family. Son of the late Isaac L. Benson and Gladys M. Benson. The loving husband of Myrna Cooke Benson of 59 years. Beloved father of Tony Darrel Benson (Michelle) and Tammy Leigh Aguilar (Glenn). Also survived and missed by five granddaughters, Kaci Aguilar Treadaway (Chad), Kaleigh Aguilar Porcelli (Matthew), Kristen Benson Mastrianni (Jordan), Katelynn Benson, Kami Aguilar and four great-grand children who affectionately knew him as “Papa” as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his sister Doris Lee Wiseman and his brother Eldon Dewellan “Bud” Benson. A graduate of Cotton Valley High School and business owner of South Louisiana Environmental Control, Teddy served as a deacon of First Baptist Church of Venice and Buras-Triumph Baptist Church and later a member of Calvary Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Belle Chasse. An avid outdoorsman, sailor, inventor, and family man, Teddy’s passion for life was ultimately found in his love for his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. John Vincent Cacibauda, Sr., of Bush, LA passed away January 20, 2019 at the age of 81. He was born the son of Jack and Vincentia (Sage) Cacibauda December 15, 1937 in New Orleans, LA. Johnny was raised in Belle Chasse and lived there most of his life before moving to Bush in 2012. Johnny always had a passion for music and at a young age with his mother and father’s encouragement, his father bought him a new Gibson acoustic guitar from Werlein’s in New Orleans where he also took lessons. Th roughout his life, Johnny C. played in numerous bands influencing countless others with his love of music along the way. In 2006, he was inducted into the Westbank Musician’s Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his parents. Johnny is survived by his son; John Cacibauda Jr. (Michele), daughter; Kim Cook (Roland), sister; Mary Ann Musgrave (Cortland), brothers: Joseph Cacibauda (Sue), Dominick Cacibauda (Paula), and Leon Cacibauda, former wife; Muriel Cacibauda, grandchildren: Roland Cook III (Gabby), Malerie Cacibauda (Brian Beck), Alicia Christians (Shannon), and Meagan Fournier (Chad), and great- grandchildren: Avery, Tate, Titan, Roland IV, and River, and dear friend, Mary Alice Landry McClelland. Memorial Services are being planned and will be announced at a later date.

Cheryll Ann Chiasson went to be with the Lord on January 4, 2019 at the age of 62. She was a lifelong resident of Belle Chasse. Cheryl is preceded in death by her father Robert “Bob” Johnson and brother James A. Johnson. Cheryl is survived by her son Carl R. Johnson and daughter Kate A. Chiasson; her mother Barbara J. Johnson; sisters Brenda Mason, Norma Poole; and nieces Julie, Kelsey, Jamie and Amanda. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church, Belle Chasse, LA, on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019 from 1:30 to 2 p.m., and a memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carl and Kate, 1510 South Industry St., Belle Chasse, LA 70037.

Richard C. Ellzey, a native of Plaquemines Parish, LA; died on Jan. 16, 2019 at Hospice Care Center of League City, Texas. at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Jean Marks Ellzey; his parents, EJ and Grace Stratton Ellzey; sisters, Gene Stratton Ellzey Roeder and Hallie Grace Ellzey Baker; brothers, John William Ellzey and EJ Ellzey, Jr. Survivors include sons, Don (Evelyn) of Jacksonville, NC, Ken (Pamela) of Fresno, CA, Bob (Susan) of Azle, TX; Max (Amy) of Culver City, CA; daughter, Sue Rives (Marcus) of Friendswood, TX; grandchildren: Carolyn Langley (Shannon), Gail Glymph (Danyel), Laura Bluemling (Thomas), Kate Ellzey, Jonathan Ellzey (Julie), Steven Ellzey, Charlton Ellzey, Joy Ellzey, William Ellzey, Bradford Ellzey, Grace Ellzey, Faith Ellzey, Emily Rives, Jaxson Rives; greatgrandchildren: Mary Grace Langley, Joshua Langley and Skylar Ellzey., plus many nieces and nephews. Mr. Ellzey was born at Harlem Plantation in Phoenix, LA, and also lived on Belair Plantation before the family moved to Venice in 1935. He was a graduate of Buras High School in 1941, a USMC veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He received a B.S. degree from Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now University of Louisiana in Lafayette, in 1949. He was married to his wife of 67 years,Jean, until her death in October of 2016. In 1953, in partnership with his father and brother EJ, he established Ellzey Marine Supplies in Venice. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Venice, served on the board of directors of Delta Bank & Trust Co., contributed greatly to many civic projects and organizations in the parish. He also provided generous personal services for many in the community, especially after Hurricanes Betsy and Camille. He retired to Biloxi, MS, enjoying his time outdoors with landscaping projects, new friendships and serving as a member of First Baptist Church in Biloxi. After Hurricane Katrina, he and Jean moved to Friendswood, TX, to be near daughter Sue. There, once again, they enjoyed the community activities, fellowship at church, and yard work with the citrus trees he planted. With declining health and strength, they spent their final years at a nearby assisted living facility. The family would like to extend grateful thanks to the staff s of Atria Friendswood (assisted living), Univ. of Texas Medical Branch-League City and Regent Care Center of League City. A visitation was held on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Biloxi, 1560 Popps Ferry Road, Biloxi, MS 39532. The funeral service followed in the church sanctuary. Interment in Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Biloxi Building Fund or Mississippi College Office of Advancement, Box 4001 Clinton, MS 39058. Lynn Christopher “Chris” Landry was tragically taken from this world last Thursday night when he was struck by a motor vehicle near his home in Boothville at the age of 65. Born on September 29, 1953, he was the sixth and youngest son of the late Percy and Wilma Landry. He was the father of Monica Landry Graham of blessed memory; Jude Landry, and Jared Landry. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Buddy, James, Makala, Jacob, and Jenee. He is also survived by his brothers Larry Landry and Cylde Landry; as well as his ex-wife Glenda Broussard. Chris was a great lover of life and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service for Chris was held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Port Sulphur on Saturday, January 26, 2019. Family and friends may offer condolences at mothefunerals.com.
