Dorothy Miremont Dupuy passed from this life to the next on June 30, 2016 at the age of 90, surrounded by those she loved and who loved her, especially her husband of 71 years, Harvey Jerome Dupuy, Sr., who noted that “she was a strong woman– and fun.” Born Dorothy Jean Miremont on January 2, 1926, in Little 0Rock, AR, she was the daughter of Lillian Leche 00Miremont and Louis E. Miremont. She was preceded in death 0by three sisters (Margaret Cazes of Plaquemine, Lillian Breaux 0of Sulphur, and Jessie Miremont, who died in childhood) and a 0brother (Louis E. “Ed” Miremont of Baton Rouge). The mother 0of seven children, Jerrie Jean Earthman of Houston (married 0to Donald Earthman), Jessie Pauline “Polly” Ellerton of Denver 0(married to John James Ellerton), Harvey Jerome Dupuy, Jr., of 0Houston (married to Renee Baudier), Deborah Annette Giglio of 00Lafayette (married to Joseph C. Giglio, Jr.), Michael John Dupuy 0of Phoenix (married to Shelley Kinnerup), Edward Joseph Dupuy 00of San Antonio (married to Jan Fluitt), and John Roy Dupuy of Los Angeles. She suffered the loss of Jessie Pauline and John Roy, both in 1994, leaving the funeral of Polly in Denver to be at the sickbed  of John in Los Angeles, who ultimately died in New Orleans after being cared for in her home. Married at the age of 19 to Harvey Jerome Dupuy in San Pedro, California on January 27, 1945, she returned to Plaquemine while Harvey served in the Pacific during World War II. When the war ended they lived variously in Baton Rouge, Venice, Lafayette and New Orleans, making New Orleans home since 1972. Never having finished college, Dorothy nevertheless possessed a shrewd intelligence and wicked sense of humor, and she insisted, using various methods of persuasion, that her children be well-educated, making personal sacrifices and enlisting her iron-clad will to see that they would. In this way she saw her three daughters take degrees and work in medical technology, nursing and speech therapy, while two of her sons became physicians, one a petroleum engineer, and the other a Ph.D. in English. She was deeply proud of her family and took great delight in seeing it expand, with 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren (listed below). Her love of family evolved from a deep Catholic faith to which she held with both ferocity and tolerance. She cared for the retired sisters of the Marianites of Holy Cross for several decades, enlisting Harvey to serve as Santa Claus at the annual Christmas Party, and she was devoted to the Monks of Saint Joseph Abbey in Covington, Louisiana, and to her home parish of Saint Andrew the Apostle in Algiers, where she and Harvey stayed active as members of the SAGES (Saint Andrews’ Gregarious Elders). Her faith sustained her through the death of Polly and John and through her decline in the last months and final days. Faith and family were complemented by many deep and lasting friendships, notably with Marie Amadee of Belle Chasse, Mildred Newsome of Dallas, Pat Kilroy of Boston, and countless others who were touched by her abundant energy, her joy for life, and her good cooking. She loved to entertain, welcoming to her home friends of children and then grandchildren, and until only a few years ago, she went down to the corner of St. Charles and Louisiana Avenues annually for Mardi Gras, shouting for beads and doubloons with the crowds. In her final days, she had many visitors. Harvey and the family thank them and especially thank her caregivers-Alma Hurlston, Alma Tayler, Sylvia Galeano, and Carmen Zalaya. They wish to thank, too, the staff of Notre Dame Hospice and Dr. David Hutchinson. A private funeral liturgy was held on July 3, 2016, the Abbey Church, Saint Joseph Abbey. Abbot Justin Brown, OSB, was the celebrant. Interment of ashes will follow the liturgy in the cemetery at Saint Joseph Abbey, in a gravesite next to her son, John. A celebration of life will take place in August at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Saint Joseph Abbey Flood Relief Fund, 75376 River Road, St. Benedict, LA 70457, or at http:// www.saintjosephabbey.com/helptheabbey/. You loved to fish, no matter where nor when. You taught us to cast as a left hander, not realizing the difference of handedness, until I was old enough to buy a rod and reel! You probably wet your first line with your father, PaJoe (too young to be calledGrandpa), known to others as Charles Andres  Jr. down at Lake Hermitage in Plaquemines Parish or with your mother, Blanche Hotard Andres, off the end of the pier as the tide rose or fell, a few inches off the bottom so Sheepshead nibbles could be felt. Those were moments for you that cemented your love for life, nature, and family. You always did create a family adventure! I still have that ceramic rearing horse fi shed out of a rushing stream inGermany, cleaned, and placed upon my pillow. You placed  one item on each of our freshly made beds in an otherwise sterile room. So, when son Charles IV, daughters,Tata (Mildred), and Cynthia McGee arrived to new housing overseas, each would have one interesting item and a story of your adventure to go with it. Your wife, Mildred Martha Andrews Andres will always be the right to your left, after sixty-nine years of marriage-from WWII to the present; both WWII Veterans. Although you had no siblings, your friendships were very precious to you. You served your country admirably, as a WWII Purple Heart Veteran and career USArmy Officer; you served your community as well, as a Lake Hermitage Volunteer Fire Dept. member and Treasurer; volunteered for the 4-H Club Plaquemines Parish as Chaperone; and gave Recycling talks and demonstrations at our local parish schools among other activities. You were a fisherman, a storyteller, a humorist, a teacher of life’s lessons, husband, father, and father-in-law to Randy McGee. Your sense of humor remained throughout your lifetime, like your father before you. After 93 years you went to sleep peacefully at home with family, but then awoke above into the arms of family and friends, who have long awaited you. Until it is our time, we will see you in the night sky, fishingthe stream pouring from the Big Dipper. Thanks to: Father Vincent, Father Kyle Dave and OLPH; David Morgan and the PPSO for the escort (family taking care of family); AmeraCare Hospice; CVS#8921; Plaquemines Pharmacy; Doctors: Newman, Le, Molina, Kerut, Jones, Sheahan, Pippin, Puente, Glass, Frisbee; family and friends; and a very special thanks to Cathy King and Tonya Stigler, (whose dedication and love continues to see us through this daily journey). The celebration of Charles’ life was Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Mothe Funeral Home, Harvey, followed by a full military burial at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Road; Slidell, LA 70460. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hero’s Farewell c/o Carla Mouton; 610 Hollycrest Blvd.; Covington, LA 70433. This is a non-profit project created to complete the vision to honor those who served and the loved ones left behind. Duty, Honor,Country.
